The Pacific Glacier recently upgraded our vessel monitoring and engine controls with Auto-Maskin’s DCU engine panels and new VMS system. The vessel is a DNV classed 270’ Factory trawler operating in the Bering sea Pollock fishery.

Originally converted in Norway in 1987 the vessel has undergone multiple conversions and upgrades to become a competitive highly efficient operation producing up 180 metric tons of finished product per day operating in excess of 9 months per year 24 hrs per day.

Where as many of the vessels production and fishing operations systems have been upgraded to keep pace with the ever evolving industry, the primary vessel monitoring and engine control systems proved very reliable and were left intact. With many of these components becoming obsolete and no longer available the vessel had to decide on a new system to replace them.

After much consideration, Auto-Maskin was chosen to provide our new engine controls and the new “Marine View” Vessel Management System. From an operator standpoint we couldn’t be happier with that decision!

This was a full vessel conversion consisting of two Bergen KVMB12 controls and complete Autronica vessel alarm replacement, several hundred unique inputs and outputs! Due to vessel operations there was a very short time frame for completion. From the very 1st day Auto-Maskin provided excellent support in vessel integration, engineering and planning, allowing the entire project to be completed in the allotted time frame.

What truly sets the Auto-Maskin’s VMS and DCU systems apart is the unparalleled user integration and customization. Factory Trawlers are very dynamic operations with many unique vessel specific variables, Auto-Maskin was quick to mold their product into a very effective HMI offering seamless operation that crew members who have been on the vessel since day one saw as easy to use and a huge improvement in ease of vessel operation and efficiency.

Since commissioning, Auto-Maskin has continued their excellent support, quickly addressing any concerns or changes requested by the vessel, I would highly endorse Auto-Maskin as an option for vessel monitoring systems and engine controls upgrades.
