Auto-Maskin distributor for the Benelux, Barendrecht Trading B.V. has recently worked with Damen Dredging in designing and manufacturing a custom built control system with the new DCU 210E engine panel to support a Booster pump utilizing a Volvo Penta engine.
“Damen had very specific needs in terms of a control system for the project”, reports Johan Barendrecht.

“The booster pump set increases the discharge distance that the main dredger can put the spoil ashore, and has several distinct control systems to enable efficient, co-ordinated operation of the complete system. The Auto-Maskin DCU 210E provided the flexibility, ease of configuration, and capability to be the natural choice as the core of the system. Additionally, the many pre-programmed languages were a key advantage, as the pump sets will be operated all over the world, and if the operator can have the information given to him in his own language, well, it is always going to be safer, more efficient, and user-friendly.”

The Auto-Maskin DCU 210E touch screen engine controller, with its configurable sensor channels, the ability to output control signals, and options regarding speed related operation and differential parameter calculations, makes it ideal for more complex control needs. Additionally, the pre-configured, twin J1939 CAN bus connections make interfacing to today’s modern engines simple.

Johan concludes; “We were given a pretty tight timeline to develop, build, deliver and test this system, but we made it. Using the Auto-Maskin DCU 210E was a significant contributory factor in making this happen. It is fast, easy to use, and more importantly needs no special tools, software or skillsets to set up, even in a system this unusual.”
